A Resort in the Clouds - Genting

So, what was the suggestion that Daniel made of what to check out around KL? A resort situated only an hour outside the city and built on top of a mountain. A resort which claims to have been voted the #1 casino resort in the world. Now, I wasn't interested in the casinos, but I was interested in the theme park which is connected to the casinos! I'm actually lying there as I didn't have a choice in the matter; the gorillas at the casino door wouldn't let me in, as I wasn't wearing suitable attire. I questioned their insolent tone and argued that they were only losing out on the money which pays their salaries, but there was no budging.

To reach the resort, you need to catch a bus from the city to the base of the mountain and then jump on the "fastest & favourite gondola in SE Asia". This takes you over dense rainforest, past a few animatronics, and into the clouds. It's only when you're getting near the summit, that you emerge above the clouds and actually see the resort. What an awesome setting!

The resort is split into the world's only indoor theme park (with casinos attached) and an outside section that has the rollercoasters, vertical drop, and other 'extreme' rides. The main rollercoaster was the type where you lie down and pretend to be superman as you twist, turn, loop-the-loop and barrel roll around the track. The vertical drop was also very cool and provided great amusement in trying to convince the Malaysians to lean forward when dropping, to see the ground rushing towards you. These rides were easily the best outside.

The inside section included things like a 'Haunted House', a weird display of freaks from around the world (models not the real people), a live music performance, archery, ten-pin bowling, eateries, a real snow zone (no snowboarding though), and best of all, the Genting Sky Venture - a state-of-the-art skydiving wind tunnel. Once again, lady luck was smiling down on me, as when it came to my air-time, it was just the instructor and yours truly. I had more flight time than people in other groups, and the instructor joined me to take me as high as possible while spinning me round at mach speed. After this, he went in alone, starting by running up the wall and doing a back flip into the flying position before pulling all sorts of tricks. What a class job!

I'm now a little more prepared for doing the real thing and am looking forward to using the skills for maneuvering taught in this experience. If you say jump, I'll say how high?!
